Meet Dr. Nathaniel Whitney

Dr. Nathaniel Whitney grew up in eastern Washington and has been dedicated to serving the Spokane community and surrounding region since 2015. He practices at Sacred Heart Medical Center, where he takes pride in providing personalized care to each patient. Dr. Whitney emphasizes a team-based approach to care, ensuring every patient benefits from a collaborative and comprehensive treatment plan.

Dr. Whitney specializes in complex spine conditions, spine and head trauma, and robotic spine surgery. He is also a clinical instructor with the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Washington and the Washington State University School of Medicine, where he shares his knowledge and expertise with the next generation of health care providers.

With a strong foundation in advanced technology and data-driven care, Dr. Whitney tailors treatment plans to each individual, striving for the best possible surgical outcomes. While technology plays an important role, he believes that every patient is unique and deserving of thoughtful, personalized care.

Outside of work, Dr. Whitney enjoys spending time with his wife and two children. Whether it’s enjoying the water and trails in the summer or the snow in the winter, he values the outdoors. A lover of music, he plays the guitar and enjoys creating things in his spare time. Of course, his day often starts with a great cup of coffee to fuel his passion for care and creativity.

Kristin Martin, DNP ARNP ACNP

Meet Kristin Martin, ARNP

Kristin holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice (ARNP) degree and has been an integral part of Dr. Whitney’s team since 2016. With a background in Neurosurgery patient care as well as Critical Care certification, Kristin brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her role.

Before joining the Neurosurgery team, Kristin worked for many years as a nurse on the Neuro Unit at Sacred Heart Medical Center, giving her a deep understanding of the patient journey from pre-surgery to post-recovery. As a skilled surgical assistant and expert in inpatient post-operative care, Kristin is a key member of the team, dedicated to guiding patients through their surgical experience with compassion and expertise.

Beyond Work

Outside of her professional life, Kristin enjoys spending quality time with her husband and three children. She values her close friendships and cherishes sharing life’s moments with those she loves.

Our team extends beyond the operating room to include many dedicated individuals who play a vital role in patient care.

Our office staff ensures a smooth experience by assisting with everything from pre-visit insurance authorizations, coordinating surgery schedules, and supporting patients through the post-surgery recovery process.

For patients undergoing surgery, the journey includes meeting many skilled professionals at the hospital. We are privileged to work alongside outstanding anesthesia providers and operating room nurses, as well as the exceptional nurses and staff members who help patients recover in the hospital before returning home.

Each of these individuals plays an important role in providing compassionate care and guiding patients through their surgical journey.
